Sun, Sea and SUP

Sometimes the stars align and everything falls in to place, I must admit it doesn\’t usually happen but on my last day in Majorca, I got lucky. I casually asked a lady if she new anything about the Paddleboarding lessons and she said she was running a paddle boarding Yoga class in 15 minutes if I wanted to join in. I couldn\’t believe my luck, yoga, the sea, a wobbly board, what could go wrong!?

Spontaneity isn\’t easy when you\’re a Mom and I had gone on holiday with no expectations of what we would be able to do with a toddler, but we managed to have some adventures; from rock climbing, epic walks to stunning beaches made possible with the help of my fabulous Mother-in-law who actually suggested we tried Paddleboarding on our last day.

The Yoga was fabulous, lots of stretching poses as well as testing our balance, strength and core stability. The hypnotic movement of the sea beneath me had an incredibly relaxing effect and I could have drifted around on the board all day.

Doing Yoga on a board was so much fun and I wanted to try out all my favourite poses, we got to do back bends and Crow pose (where you balance on your hands and your knees are on your elbows, it was tough but I never felt like I was going to fall in, the board is more steady than it looks). At the start of the class we paddled out towards the sun and the conditions were perfect, like a mill pond, quiet, peaceful and stunningly beautiful scenery.

Our teacher Kate was fantastic, she is also a massage therapist so had great knowledge of anatomy and taught with a calm and reassuring manner even though I had never paddle boarded before. The beauty of the sport is you can sit, kneel and stand up whilst you paddle and develop in your own time. My Mother-in-law was a star, she stood up within a few minutes and took to it like a duck to water. My husband also had a paddle and showed off doing headstands and tricks, he couldn\’t just enjoy a relaxing paddle around, but then it shows just how versatile the sport is, I have friends in Florida who do paddle board races!

I am well and truly hooked and can\’t wait to get back on the water.
