Treatments in pregnancy

Supporting your pregnancy with Osteopathic treatment can help you feel stronger, mobile and more prepared for birth and parenthood. It’s our belief that an active pregnancy paves the way for a more active labour, birth and fourth trimester. We want our pregnant patients to feel empowered in the strength of their bodies, while soothing any muscular, ligament or joint pains that might arise as your body grows and changes.

Commonly, women may experience lower back pain, sciatica, pelvic pain, or Pelvic Girdle Pain during pregnancy. Ligament pain in the pelvis and abdomen are also common as your uterus grows to accommodate your growing baby, and our Osteopaths are competent and safe in treating pregnant patients with all these concerns.

Hands-on treatment with an Osteopath is gentle and safe all the way through your pregnancy. Our Osteopaths are ready to support you with simple at-home exercise programs to supplement your treatments in clinic, and help you feel more connected with your body ahead of birth. Your Osteopath may suggest particular supports for you during pregnancy, in the form of body pillows or sleeping aids, to strapping or bump supports. Each pregnant patient has their issues addressed as an individual, as our practitioners are sensitive to the fact that not all pregnancies are the same.

Pelvic Floor and Abdominal Rehabilitation

Our Women’s Health offering is one of the service areas that Team Ebrook are most proud of. Our practitioners are dedicated to helping women of all ages return to exercise and take care of their bodies. Whether it’s marathon running, labour and childbirth, or taking care of others – we believe that women’s incredible bodies deserve incredible healthcare.

The Mummy MOT

The post-birth check that you deserve.

Lots of women feel their 6-week post-birth check is lacking in detail, help, and advice for their own bodies. Is it time to return to sport? Is your abdomen healing correctly? Is your pelvic floor alright? There are lots of questions women have about this process that often don’t get answered.

Enter, the Mummy MOT.

Your practitioner will help you understand the necessary pelvic and abdominal rehabilitation for post-partum, ensuring successful recovery after labour and birth. Breathing exercises, pelvic floor rehabilitation and education feature heavily in this appointment type; helping women understand the healing process and what to expect over the coming weeks.

This appointment includes an optional internal pelvic assessment, and a pre-screening questionnaire must be submitted online before your appointment. Like all the appointments at our clinic, you are welcome to bring a chaperone or person to support you. Our team are very happy to chat through any questions in a brief phone call if you are unsure about booking – please contact the clinic of your choice to discuss your options.

PELVIC HEALTH

Pelvic Health Appointments

Pelvic health appointments don’t have to just be for post-partum women. Often, we see ladies in clinic who have suffered some pelvic pain or dysfunction for many years, whether they have had children or not.

There are many women’s health conditions that can affect the integrity and suppleness of the pelvic floor, not just birth.

Hormonal changes, surgeries, or prolapse can affect anyone.
Pelvic health appointments can help with bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunctions, that would otherwise continue to have a big impact on women’s physical and mental health.

Return to Sport
Assessment after childbirth

This assessment appointment has been designed to determine if you’re ready to return to sport after childbirth.

There are certain parameters that we can test using our VALD performance equipment to determine a woman’s injury risk in returning to sport, which are assessed and quantified in this appointment.

Work with your practitioner to identify any areas that still need to be strengthened before returning to running, cycling, swimming, or any other sport of your choice.

With so many barriers already in the way of women getting back into sport after becoming mothers, it’s important to make your return physically successful.

Injuries at this junction can prevent successful return, and readiness to exercise is not always easily measured by how you feel.

Your practitioner will end the appointment by either clearing you for sport, or giving you a rehabilitation plan to get you to the correct level of strength and symmetry to successfully return at a later date.

We want women to walk away from these appointments empowered to exercise, and keep their incredible bodies in the best of health.

Lots of women like to wait for a certain degree of healing before engaging in post-birth care. 6 weeks is normally a good junction to approach post-birth care, especially if you have had stitches in an episiotomy or caesarean. Once your surface wounds are closed, there is a reduction in infection risk, and you are able to access post-birth care in a physical therapy environment such as we offer at the Ebrook Clinic.

Absolutely! Some women may feel they don’t qualify for post-partum care for a variety of reasons. We believe pelvic health is important to all women, whether their pregnancies have ended with vaginal or abdominal birth. Caesarean scars can offer their own healing challenges, which our practitioners are capable of guiding you through.
