Sports Therapist - BSc Sports Therapy

Lizzie Watters

Lizzie’s career in the health and fitness industry is a real grass-roots story. She began working at leisure centres and coaching at running clubs, before embarking on her bachelors degree in Sports Therapy at University College Birmingham. Lizzie first walked through the doors at Ebrook Osteopathy and Sports Clinic as a patient with a running injury, before returning as a member of the team with her sports massage diploma, then ultimately graduating from UCB with first class honours, having fully realised her skill set.

Making the transition from patient to practitioner means she already has a thorough understanding of what it takes to create dynamic treatment plans that are effective for her clients. A specialist in running injuries and performance, Lizzie is here to make sure pain doesn’t hold you back from the activities you love.

Lizzie has undertaken further training in gait analysis with foremost expert Mike Antoniades. This methodology enables Lizzie to help her clients retrain their gait effectively – helping them to run faster and more efficiently, while simultaneously reducing their injury risk.

Lizzie’s own compiled research led the clinic to invest in Shockwave Therapy, after Lizzie used her BSc dissertation project to exemplify the research showing it’s incredible efficacy in the treatment of plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy. Lizzie spearheaded the introduction of this technology in the clinic, which most practitioners are now trained to deliver. She has been the driving force for patient’s finding the best lower limb tendon rehabilitation, and vastly improved the clinic’s effectiveness in this area.

Lizzie is a keen runner, regularly competing for her local West Midlands club the Birchfield Harriers. Never one to back down from a physical challenge, Lizzie and her sister Sam Watters (Ebrook Podiatrist) took part in the Staffordshire Half Ironman in 2022, competing in blisteringly hot weather and finishing with excellent times. Lizzie went on to be the first female finisher of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Fun Run later in the summer of 2022.

Lizzie’s dedication in her training is matched only by her dedication to incredible treatment outcomes for her patients.
