Primarily our paediatric Osteopaths will work using a discipline of manual therapy called Cranial Osteopathy. Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle form of treatment, which focuses on bringing the body to a point of comfort. Many patients find this relaxing treatment can ease aches and pains, and help them to feel calm.
The treatment works by finding and releasing areas of tension in a baby’s body, by holding them gently in a comfortable position. Most parents report the positive effects on their babies after 4 to 6 treatments.
Although the scientific research into Cranial Osteopathy is limited, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence from the patients who enjoy the treatments – ranging from feeling relaxed and being better able to sleep, to improved digestion.
Cranial Osteopathy is always performed by a fully qualified and registered Osteopath. Cranial Osteopathy is often the recommended form of osteopathic treatment for babies and children. When we treat babies, the practitioner can’t ask them questions about how their bodies feel – so they have to feel the joints and muscles carefully to find any areas of tension or stress.
Cranial Osteopathy is the chosen treatment for children because their tiny bodies need a gentle and soothing treatment without any side effects. Parents may report that after Cranial treatment their babies sleep and feed better than they did before.

We have practitioners with a specialised interested in the development of young athletes, helping them to develop their skills and confidence in their chosen sport, while avoiding injuries and pitfalls along the way.
We work alongside coaches to help young athletes understand the demands of moving into professional sport, and to help guide their training in the most optimal way.
We look to move especially gifted young athletes or performers onto a clinic sponsorship package where appropriate, to help alleviate the financial burden of pursuing a career in professional sport. You can find out more about our sponsored athletes by visiting our Sponsored Athletes page.
All children and teens under 16 years of age will need a trusted adult chaperone to attend their appointments with them. If this adult is not the legal parent or guardian of the child, we require a single-time telephone or email confirmation to authorise an alternative adult chaperone (grandparent, other family member, child care professional, etc)
Osteopathic treatment is safe from just a week or so. We typically like parents to complete neonatal checks with their midwife before bringing a newborn baby to clinic. Osteopathic treatment is very gentle and safe at any age.
No. There are lots of videos on social media of manual practitioners performing manipulation (clicking) techniques on babies and children, but that is not something that happens in Ebrook Clinics. Our treatments for babies and children are incredibly gentle; we respect their growing physiology, and we do not manipulate joints until a child’s bones are fully ossified.
Colic is a really common presentation for babies coming to see Osteopaths. The causes of colic are not well understood, and our practitioners do their best to rule out any other causes of discomfort (poor latch or feeding technique, cow’s milk allergy, etc)
Colic is a self-limiting condition, and while there’s not much scientific evidence to support Osteopathic treatment helping colicky babies, lots of parents anecdotally report an improvement in their babies.
