If you’re on a health and fitness journey, sooner or later you’ll find you hit a plateau. If your goal is weight loss, you might find the scales are stagnant. If you want to get fitter or stronger, smashing your personal best may become a seemingly impossible task.
Here are 3 ways to shake it up when you hit a plateau –

Cross-Train
It’s easy to find yourself in a routine. Same classes at the gym, same food in the fridge. This is the time to do something outside your comfort-zone. Book yourself into a totally different class; even if it’s not as high intensity as your normal routine. Adding a yoga class into your running or HIIT driven workouts can help to cross-train your body to perform better when it comes to the crunch.

Seek Inspiration
If you’re stuck in an eating rut, get yourself a new cookbook, or get onto Instagram to find some healthy recipe accounts to follow. Seeing other people’s creations can motivate you to try new combinations, and broaden your idea of what healthy eating should look like. Treating yourself to a new recipe book can be a nice way to reward yourself for working hard on your goals up until now; spend an afternoon flicking through with a cup of tea to find something that inspires you to get in the kitchen.

Take a BREAK
Rest is as important as working out. Try not to stress out that your goal isn’t arriving as quickly as you’d like. The human body isn’t linear, and factors like stress can alter your hormone balance and blood chemistry, contributing to you not achieving your goals. If you wander off plan, the worst thing you can do is beat yourself up for it!
Sometimes the best thing you can do is take the pressure off, take a rest day, and come back refreshed and ready to focus on your health the next day.
