After the explosion of HIIT (high intensity interval training) in the last few years, the new trend looking to come around the corner is the complementary LISS workout.


Designed to mix in with HIIT for a complete fitness programme, LISS stands for Low Intensity Steady State – the brain child of the guys at Kayla Fitness, who make the Sweat (with Kayla) app.


LISS is a great addition to work out programmes where fat burn is the main goal. In order to break down fat, our bodies need oxygen. That means not pushing yourself to be too out of breath.


There are loads of options for working this into your regimen; walking, cycling, hiking and swimming at a steady pace all produce the LISS effect. The best thing is that LISS is often a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. Find a hiking trail, or a new route in the park, and just go for a wander!


To begin with, it is recommended to add two 30 minute LISS workouts to your week. If nothing else changes in your fitness or nutrition programmes, you’ll be able to see just how effective LISS is at burning fat and aiding recovery!
