Our February coffee table book has been out in clinic for a couple of weeks now. The practitioners have chosen “The Matter of the Heart” by Thomas Morris.
The book details the history of 12 ground-breaking cardiac procedures; everything from stents and bypasses, to transplants and the future of cardiac surgery.
It is incredible to read about the processes by which these procedures are first dreamt up by forward-thinking cardiologists, and the rigorous theory testing that comes before the first live operations on patients.
Without these advances, many conditions which we now view as incredibly treatable would instead still claim the lives of people who are diagnosed with them.
The book is approachable for everyone, even if you don’t have a medical background. In a time when our NHS is under more pressure than ever, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the heights that medicine can achieve.
Take a look at your February appointment, the book will be on our waiting room coffee table until the end of the month!
